The Academic Program of D.L.D.A.V.M.S Shalimar Bagh is dynamic, versatile and comprehensive. It meets the learners needs, societal expectations, community aspirations and international comparisons and it is put into transaction by a sophisticated integration of technology and human intellect.
The beginning of school in the child’s life is the year of excitement, new discoveries and learning. As the year unfolds it is our constant endeavor to create a home away from home within the walls of the school. The vision of DAV is to contribute meaningfully towards nation building by nurturing the child into compassionate and profound thinker, who has a genuine sense of responsibility and will be leader in his/her respective field. We make an effort to use the immediate environment and environmental assets to enable the child to associate what was unknown to him/her with the known and make the new things a part of his life.
The Early Education Development Program which was initiated by DAV Education Board in June’92 by Dr. Nisha Peshin for children in Pre-Primary (i.e. Nursery to Class II) has helped us to eliminate the burden of conventional style of education, promoted play-oriented and activity based learning, laid stress on developing the cognitive domain of the child instead of focusing on merely cramming and memorization.
The Early Childhood Education Curriculum consists of providing a wide range of qualitatively rich activities designed to assist the complete development of the whole child. Curriculum is, in fact ‘the educational program of a school wherein the learners’ experiences in and outside the school are involved. In other words, it represents the total life of school in which the child is a central factor. The curriculum is so designed that all the potentialities and capabilities of the child are enhanced so as to help a child to learn and develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally to the best of his or her individual ability.
Activities such as taekwondo, aerobics, dance, music, water play, clay molding, sand play, celebration of National festivals, sensory play, and patterning are enjoyed by one and all. Our motto is, ‘Participation by all’, during all kinds of presentations.
Furthermore, emphasis is laid on basic skills of communication, numeracy, healthful living, and life skills related to the world of play, work and culture. Value Education is another important component of the entire school curriculum where a child learns basic values such as Honesty, Love, Patriotism, Truthfulness, Sincerity, Love, and Compassion etc. through group discussions, role play, identifying and exploring the various concepts.
The Nursery Wing excels in giving a strong foundation to each child using the Comprehensive Educational Kit titled ‘Child Craft Kit’ as part of the Early Education Development Program. It comprises of interesting assortment of games and play material which caters to all the developmental stages of the child.
‘Education is a seed, if it is provided with supplements such as smart boards which help children to grow into a plant bearing fruits’. Smart boards have made the process of learning fun filled and more interesting for the tiny tots. Using or moving virtual objects with fingers has added magical effect to learning. The colorful graphics have longer lasting and captivating effect on today’s techie kids.
The Multimedia CD’s titled ‘e wiz kid’ for Classes I and II covering all the curriculum areas and reinforcing the curriculum concepts dealt in textbooks, animated backgrounds and animated characters, extensive use of voiceovers and background sounds has made learning &lsquofun-filled’ In this journey, we also call for the building of a partnership between the school and home. We lay emphasis on building and strengthening of a learning community wherein teachers, children and parents walk hand-in-hand towards building of a progressive society.
EVALUATION:- Research has shown that tests are not accurate when measuring a child’s abilities as he/she does not understand the concept of testing. We cannot compare one child’s ‘score’ with another’s. No formal tests are conducted as each child develops at different rates and comparison at this stage is meaningless. Thus a child’s progress is measured by the teacher’s ongoing observations over the whole year. This progress is compared to his / her own previous development and not to other children.
The teacher records the child’s progress in the following ways:-
These classes continue to build upon the foundation set in the initial schooling years. Using excellent software uploaded in the state-of-the-art smart boards, the learners pick up concepts and ideas effortlessly, enjoying the schooling experience. The CCE system is continued for carrying out the assessment of the learners.
In the middle school Classes VI-VIII, Curriculum and text books designed by DAVCMC are followed. The senior wingfollows the syllabi of C.B.S.E. for classes IX to XII. It focuses on the collective and individualistic role of education - helping each child achieve his potential and preparing him for a global society.
The constructivist approach in which learner is at the center and the teacher a catalyst for creativity is taken up with great sincerity. Also, ‘application’ and ‘skill’ oriented testing is conducted rather than ‘memory’ oriented and the regurgitation approach is strictly discouraged.
Learners of classes V, VI and VII can now benefit from learning a foreign language by opting for German that has been introduced as a third language option. This will give students access to the language and culture of the leading European nation and enhance their career prospects as well.
